▎Essential Oil Introduction
A unique aromatic plant found in parts of India and Pakistan thrives in arid and barren regions. Its robust trunk, twisted branches, and thorny exterior produce a milky sap when the bark is cut. Upon exposure to air, the sap hardens into yellow-brown, semi-transparent resin—known as frankincense. The ancient Egyptians revered frankincense as the scent closest to the divine, calling it the "sweat of the gods" and believing it to be a guide for the soul's journey.
This ancient and precious aroma, when distilled, produces an essential oil with a complex molecular profile, predominantly composed of monoterpenes along with sesquiterpenes and esters. While resins often yield thick and heavy essential oils, frankincense oil is uniquely ethereal, with a lingering scent that carries woody and spicy notes complemented by a touch of lemon. Using frankincense oil in aromatherapy can evoke a sense of sacred unity and the profound power of the essential oil.
One story of frankincense comes from the Bible. In the Gospel of Matthew (Chapter 2), the Three Wise Men from the East brought gifts of frankincense, myrrh, and gold as they followed the celestial path to witness the divine birth. Gold symbolized "royalty," myrrh represented "sacrifice," and frankincense signified "mission." Through their gifts, they expressed: "You, the revered one, are blessed by God and entrusted to bear the sufferings of the world on our behalf." Thanks to its biblical connection, frankincense became widely known and cherished.
