▎Essential Oil Introduction

Carrots have many varieties and are biennial or annual herbaceous plants. They have upright, multi-branched stems that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall. Essential oil is extracted from the seeds of wild carrots, while their stems and leaves can be dried to create an herb used to enhance the aroma of teas or liqueurs. The edible carrot variety shares similar foliage with the one used for essential oil extraction, but the wild carrot has a coarser texture, and its roots are inedible. The entire wild carrot plant can be distilled to produce essential oil, with Europe being the primary source, although some are also produced in Egypt and India.

Carrots have been used as food for centuries and are mentioned in ancient Greek pharmacopeia for their benefits to the liver and stomach. In France, carrot seeds have been used medicinally to aid digestion, detoxify the liver, and promote wound healing. In modern times, carrot seed has been applied in clinical treatments for cancer patients and is an essential element for eye health. Carrot seed essential oil is commonly used in skincare for its nourishing properties.

▎Component Analysis

|Research Validation

▸ Research indicates that lotions containing carrot seed oil have been studied for their antioxidant potential.

▸ Research has found that carrot seed essential oil and its purified compound, carotol, are scents that mosquitoes dislike. Data suggests that these natural products could potentially be developed into natural insect repellent sprays.
