Grapefruit originated in Asia, and with the migration of human civilization and commerce, the Rutaceae family developed many different varieties. ▸ In 2001, research found that grapefruit essential oil exhibits activity related to acetylcholinesterase inhibition, with its unique sesquiterpene ketone components, Nootkatone and Auraptene, showing 17-24% inhibition at a concentration of 1.62 μg/mL.
▸ Grapefruit essential oil contains up to 92.6% limonene, and research has shown its activity against both Gram-positive (+) and Gram-negative (-) bacteria.
